The Rappahannock Animal Welfare League (RAWL) is dedicated to rescuing unwanted, abandoned, or neglected dogs and providing them with the care, shelter, and medical attention they deserve. Our mission is to ensure every dog has the opportunity to live a happy, healthy life until they are matched with their permanent, loving home.
Based in Rappahannock County, Virginia, we manage the daily operations of the local animal shelter to provide a safe haven for dogs in need. We believe that no animal should be homeless, and we work tirelessly to address the needs of our local canine population. Our vision is a world where there are no unwanted pets, a goal we strive toward through community outreach and the promotion of responsible pet ownership.
Operating out of our shelter in Amissville, we provide 24/7 care for our dogs 365 days a year. Every animal in our care receives a thorough medical exam, including vaccinations, spay or neuter surgery, microchipping, and preventative treatments for heartworm, fleas, and ticks. Our dedicated staff and volunteers work around the clock to ensure each dog is healthy and ready to join a new family.
We believe in the power of thoughtful, compatible placements to create lifelong bonds. Our adoption process is designed to help you find the right companion for your lifestyle, whether you have a large family or need a quiet partner. By focusing on each individual dog’s needs and personality, we help foster successful, lasting relationships between pets and their new people.
