Basset Rescue of Old Dominion (BROOD) promotes the humane treatment of homeless, stray, and abandoned basset hounds by providing food, shelter, expert medical care, and placement in loving adoptive homes. We are dedicated to ensuring these special hounds receive the compassionate care they deserve as they transition to their new lives.
Since our founding in 1996, we have been a dedicated community of hound lovers committed to rescuing bassets and basset mixes in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC, Delaware, and parts of southern Pennsylvania. Now in our 30th year of rescue, we are proud to have helped over 3,555 hounds find the homes they truly deserve.
BROOD is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, foster-based organization, meaning we do not operate a central shelter facility. Instead, our rescued hounds are cared for in a network of loving foster homes where they receive personalized attention and medical evaluations in a safe, home-like environment. This allows us to learn each dog's unique personality, temperament, and health needs before they move to their forever families.
We believe that adoption is a joyful, lifelong partnership, and we are committed to making the best possible placement for both the dog and the adopter. Our team of volunteers works closely with you to understand your lifestyle, ensuring that we match our hounds with a home where they will thrive. By carefully reviewing applications and conducting house visits, we create lasting bonds that bring years of happiness to families and their new Basset companions.
Whether you are ready to welcome a new four-legged friend into your family or want to support our ongoing efforts, we invite you to get involved.
