Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA
A Heart for Every Animal
Founded in 1914, the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA is dedicated to fostering a compassionate community where every companion animal thrives. We strive to advance the humane treatment of pets by providing comprehensive sheltering, medical care, and behavioral support for dogs and cats across our region.
Our Legacy of Compassion
For over a century, we have served as a cornerstone of animal welfare, growing from humble beginnings into a professional team of 65 staff members. Since 2006, we have proudly maintained a no-kill designation with a 90% live release rate, ensuring that our work is always inspired by the powerful, life-changing bond between pets and the people who love them.
How We Care
As a community-focused shelter, we serve as a temporary refuge for animals who are lost, sick, or in need of a second chance. Our facility is designed to prioritize safety and well-being, while our dedicated foster network helps us extend our reach beyond the shelter walls. We are committed to a judgment-free approach, working hand-in-hand with our community to ensure every animal receives the care they deserve.
Finding Your Perfect Match
We believe that adoption is a joyful partnership, which is why we utilize an 'open adoption' philosophy to remove barriers and create accessible, positive experiences for all families. Our team provides guidance on pet care and behavior, ensuring that you and your new companion are set up for a lifetime of happiness together. We are here to support you throughout the transition, making the process of bringing a new member into your home both simple and rewarding.
Begin Your Journey Today
Are you ready to meet your new best friend? Visit us at our shelter on Berkmar Drive any day from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM to explore our available animals and start your adoption journey. We invite you to connect with us and discover the difference that a loving home can make.
