Alleghany Humane Society

Our Mission

At the Alleghany Humane Society, we are dedicated to saving lives, finding forever homes, and providing vital support to the pets and people of our community.

Our History and Community

Since our establishment in the 1970s, we have spent nearly 50 years growing our support for homeless pets and pet owners in need. We proudly serve Alleghany County, the city of Covington, and the towns of Clifton Forge and Iron Gate, Virginia, acting as a safe haven for local stray or unwanted animals.

How We Care for Animals

We believe in giving every animal a second chance through our shelter environment. Our success is built upon the combined efforts of our devoted board, staff, volunteers, and community partners who work tirelessly to ensure each animal is cared for and supported.

Beyond immediate shelter care, we are committed to ending pet overpopulation by providing education and low-cost spay and neuter services. Thanks to generous grant funding from WestRock, we are able to support approximately 1,000 companion animals annually through these essential programs.

Finding Your New Best Friend

Adoption is a joyful journey, and we are here to help you find the perfect companion to complete your home. Every animal in our care is spayed or neutered prior to adoption, ensuring they are ready to transition into your family with the best possible start.
