At the Alleghany Humane Society, our mission is simple yet profound: we are dedicated to saving homeless pets in our community, finding them loving homes, and providing essential help to the people who care for them.
Our History and Commitment
Established in the 1970s, our shelter has spent nearly 50 years growing alongside the community to better serve our four-legged friends. We are proud to provide dedicated animal services for Alleghany County, the city of Covington, and the towns of Clifton Forge and Iron Gate, Virginia.
Providing a Second Chance
We serve as a safe haven for stray and unwanted animals, offering them a fresh start through our shelter facility. Beyond immediate care, we work to end pet overpopulation by promoting responsible pet ownership and administering low-cost spay and neuter assistance, made possible through generous grant funding from WestRock.

Adoption is a joyful journey, and we are here to help you make a lifelong connection with your new companion. Every cat and dog in our care is spayed or neutered, ensuring they are healthy and ready to join your family.
