Pets Bring Joy

Welcome to Pets Bring Joy (PBJ), a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue established in March 2013, dedicated to serving the Northern Virginia, Washington D.C., and suburban Maryland communities. Since our inception, we have proudly helped 4,279 deserving animals find their forever homes, and in doing so, we have brought joy to countless community members through the priceless gift of animal companionship. At PBJ, our mission is twofold: we strive to reduce the at-risk homeless animal population by providing homes for animals from overcrowded shelters, strays found in our neighborhoods, and pets surrendered by owners facing hardship. Additionally, we believe in making the healing therapy of animal companionship accessible to everyone through adoption, fostering, and volunteering initiatives. Our adoption program is both thoughtful and inclusive, ensuring that every animal in our care connects with a loving forever home. We are committed to educating the public about the importance of spaying and neutering, the challenges faced by community cats, and promoting the humane treatment of all animals. Furthermore, we are passionate about mentoring youth, fostering their love for animals and commitment to community service, which lays the groundwork for the next generation of rescuers and philanthropists. We hold a special place in our hearts for older animals and those with treatable medical concerns, who are often overlooked by potential adopters. Through collaboration with local rescue organizations, we enhance the collective impact of our efforts to reduce the homeless animal population, ensuring that no animal is left behind. Our fabulous team of over 100 volunteers and part-time staff are the backbone of Pets Bring Joy, working tirelessly each day in various capacities—from fostering animals to organizing adoption events and caring for our rescued pets. We believe that volunteers are essential to our success, and we are incredibly grateful for their unwavering dedication to our mission. Everyone in our community is welcome at PBJ.
