Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation
Our Mission
The Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation helps homeless pets find their way into loving homes through rescue and adoption. We believe in an open, friendly process that matches great people with wonderful pets, ensuring every animal gets the second chance they deserve.
Our History
Founded in 2001 by Arlington restaurant owners Pam McAlwee and Ross Underwood, our organization began with a grassroots effort to save homeless animals in our community. We have since grown to save more than 50,000 lives, largely by rescuing pets facing the threat of euthanasia in overcrowded municipal shelters.
How We Help
We operate as a community-based network, utilizing our Rescue Care Center in Falls Church, a dedicated ranch in Sumerduck, and a wide network of compassionate foster homes. This variety of environments allows our dogs and cats to decompress, learn, and prepare for their forever families in settings tailored to their individual needs.
A Joyful Adoption
We love pets and people, which is why we strive to keep our adoption process positive, fun, and free of unnecessary barriers. Whether you are meeting a new friend at one of our weekend adoption events or coordinating a remote adoption, our team is here to support you every step of the way with transparent guidance and a two-week trial period to ensure a perfect fit.
Find Your New Best Friend
Ready to bring a new companion into your life? We invite you to browse our available dogs and cats online today or join us at an upcoming event to meet your perfect match in person. Together, we can turn homeless pets into beloved family members.
