Old Dominion Humane Society

Our Mission

Old Dominion Humane Society is a dedicated, volunteer-led nonprofit organization committed to providing well-matched, permanent homes for dogs in need. We focus on rescuing, rehabilitating, and educating the community to ensure every dog finds a loving, lifelong family.

Driven by Compassion

Since opening our doors in 2013, we have been proud to serve the Fredericksburg area, marking over 10,000 successful adoptions. We believe that with the right support, we can keep pets and people together, creating a community where every animal is cherished.

Our Care Model

As a volunteer-led rescue, we operate through a unique blend of a physical adoption center and a compassionate foster network. This allows us to provide a safe, nurturing environment for dogs of all ages while they wait for their forever families, ensuring they receive the socialization and care they deserve.

Finding Your Perfect Match

We believe that adoption is a joyful partnership, not just a transaction. Our team is dedicated to thoughtful, well-matched placements, helping you find a canine companion that fits seamlessly into your lifestyle and routine. Whether you are looking for a playful puppy or a gentle senior, we are here to support you in building a meaningful bond.

9/27 - Fostering isn’t always kisses and cuddles… sometimes it’s medicated baths, messy moments, and a whole lot of patience. These poor babies came to us with horrendous skin conditions, but thankfully, they now have a foster family willing to put in the work to help them heal. ❤️ This particular foster is getting plenty of medicated baths, belly rubs, love, and reassurance while they work toward feeling their best again. 🛁🐶 Fostering can be hard work, but our fosters make such an incredible difference in the lives of these dogs. We are SO thankful for every person who opens their home and heart to a dog in need—and the dogs are pretty thankful too! 🥰🐾 Help us show our amazing fosters some love and appreciation in the comments! 💙👇 Foster families truly make rescue possible.
