Established in 1947 in Front Royal, Virginia, we have served as a safe haven for over 70 years. We are proud to have achieved and maintained no-kill status since 2012, ensuring that every life in our care is valued.

Our shelter offers an inviting and welcoming atmosphere for both our animals and our guests. Beyond our walls, we provide community support through a free pet food bank, a low-cost spay/neuter program, and seasonal rabies clinics. Our dedicated team of employees, volunteers, and foster families works tirelessly to ensure each animal receives the attention and medical care they deserve.

10/17 - Meet Leroy! Leroy is a 1-year-old, approximately 60-pound Pit Mix who is basically a giant puppy in a strong, 60-pound body! He is EXTREMELY playful, loves having fun, and has plenty of energy to keep his future family on their toes. Leroy is going to need an experienced dog owner who understands that young dogs need guidance, structure, training, and plenty of patience. He is still learning his manners and boundaries and doesn't always realize that he is a BIG boy! His previous owner says he is good with kids, but his extra playful and pushy puppy personality can sometimes be a little much. Because of his size and energy, we will require the whole family to come meet him. An active family would be ideal for Leroy—someone ready to give him exercise, mental stimulation, training, and all the outlets a young, energetic dog needs. We think this goofy guy has a LOT of potential with the right person willing to put in the work! Leroy hasn't been around many other dogs, so we're still getting to know how he feels about canine friends. A dog test will be required with any dogs currently in the home. We have no idea of him with cats and we think extreme caution and super slow and patient introductions is best to make sure everyone is comfy. The good stuff? Leroy is crate trained, calm and well-behaved in the car, and is perfectly okay with being bathed and brushed. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on his vaccines. Leroy isn't looking for someone who expects a perfectly polished dog right away. He's looking for someone who sees the goofy, playful young dog underneath the rough edges and is ready to teach him how to be the best version of himself. If you're an experienced dog owner looking for a fun, active companion and you're ready for a little training, a LOT of play, and plenty of personality, Leroy may be your guy!

10/16 - 🚨 CRICKET IS HERE, AND HE DID NOT COME TO PLAY… JUST KIDDING, THAT’S LITERALLY ALL HE WANTS TO DO! 😂🐾 Meet Cricket! This 1 ½-year-old Pit Mix is handsome enough to be a doggy model, sweet enough to steal your heart, and energetic enough to make you question whether he secretly runs on batteries! 🔋🤣 Cricket loves toys, loves pets, and loves having a good time! If you’re looking for a couch potato, you might want to keep scrolling. If you’re looking for a fun-loving best friend who will keep you moving, make you laugh, and shower you with affection, Cricket is ready to clock in for duty! 🐶❤️ Now, Cricket would like us to mention that he’s still working on his resume. 😉 He needs a patient adopter who is willing to help him learn boundaries, manners, and how to walk nicely on a leash. 10/10 - 🐾 ATHENA AND SNOW’S PAW-SOME PLAYDATE! 😂🐾 Athena (3-year-old tan pit mix) and Snow (3–4-year-old white pit mix) got together for a playdate, and let's just say… the zoomies were zooming, the personalities were PERSONALITY-ING, and the fun was off the charts! 🤣🐶 These two girls may look like opposites, but they both know how to have a good time! 🤎 ATHENA is our energetic, loving girl who brings the party wherever she goes! She's looking for a confident, active family who can keep up with her adventures. Athena would benefit from training to help her be the best girl she can be. She needs a home without cats and is dog selective, so a dog test is required for any potential canine siblings. 🤍 SNOW is a certified love bug with the sweetest soul! ❤️ She's got that perfect balance of playful energy and laid-back cuddles. She's been reported to be great with kids and dogs, but a dog test is required for any resident pups. We're unsure how she feels about cats, so slow, patient introductions are best. 10/10 - Meet Ozzy! Ozzy is a 3-year-old Beagle mix who is still learning that the world isn’t such a scary place. He is a timid, nervous boy who may need some time—and possibly a few meet-and-greets—to feel comfortable and understand that he is safe. Once Ozzy starts getting some love, he slowly begins to soften and show you the sweet boy underneath that nervous exterior. He just needs someone willing to be patient, give him time, and let him come out of his shell at his own pace. Ozzy needs a home with children 12 years or older. We are unsure how he feels about cats, so very slow and patient introductions will be needed to make sure everyone is comfortable. We are also unsure about him with other dogs, and a dog test is required with any current dogs in the home. Ozzy is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines. He may not be the dog who runs up and greets you right away—but if you’re willing to give him the time he needs, you could be the person who shows Ozzy that he has nothing to be afraid of and that he is finally home. Ozzy is looking for a patient, understanding family who will let him learn to trust at his own pace. Could you be his safe place?

10/10 - 🐾 PLAY DATE PALS: CARMELLA & CURRY! 🐾 Who says you can't make new friends and have a little fun along the way?! 😍 Carmella and Curry recently got together for a play date, and these two pittie pups were ready to make the most of it! 💕🐶 Meet Carmella, our 1½-year-old tan and white pit mix, and Curry, our 1-year-old brindle and white pit mix! These two young pups have plenty of life, love, and fun to share with their future families. 10/3 - Meet Daphne Daphne is a beautiful, energetic girl around 4 years old who’s ready to find her perfect match! She thrives with bigger dogs and will require a dog test to ensure a good fit with any potential canine siblings. She is spayed, microchipped, up to date on all vaccines, and has had a full 4DX test—negative across the board—so she’s all set to start her next chapter healthy and strong. Daphne is looking for a home without cats. She’s a high-energy pup who will do best with an active family that can keep up with her love for the outdoors—whether that’s long walks, playtime in the yard, or adventures together. She absolutely adores toys and will happily keep herself (and you!) entertained. Because she can be a bit nervous with new things, Daphne would benefit from continued training to help build her confidence and learn boundaries. She would do best in a home with children 10+ who can respect her space while she settles in. Once she feels safe and comfortable, Daphne is incredibly affectionate and loving—she just needs a little time and patience to truly shine.
