Our Mission
At the Regional Animal Shelter (RAS), we are dedicated to providing a safe, temporary haven for displaced animals while matching them with the loving, permanent families they deserve. Every paw and whisker receives our compassionate care as we work to ensure every pet gets a second chance at a happy life.
Serving Our Community
As a municipal facility, we provide essential care and welfare services for animals from King William and King and Queen counties. We believe pets are family, and we are committed to supporting our community members through challenges by providing resources, guidance, and transparent, data-driven animal services.
Our Care Model
Our facility functions as a hub of care where we provide comprehensive medical support, including vaccinations, flea and tick preventative, and microchipping for our adoptable animals. We are proud to be supported by a dedicated team of volunteers and foster families who provide extra love and socialization, ensuring our pets are ready for their new homes.

10/7 - Some dogs show you exactly who they are in a shelter. And some say, absolutely not, you will learn NOTHING about me here. 😭 Meet Beau, Meatball, and Honey Pot, three of our pups who found shelter life a little too overwhelming. Thankfully, some pretty incredible foster families opened their homes and gave them somewhere to finally exhale. ❤️ And THAT is where these dogs have gotten to shine. They’re getting to live like normal dogs. Sleeping on couches. Learning routines. Hanging out with their people. Showing us all the little pieces of their personalities that were harder to see when they were stressed in a kennel. The only downside? Being tucked away in cozy foster homes means you guys don’t see their faces nearly enough. So today, we’re fixing that. 🫡 All three are still waiting for their forever homes, and their foster families can tell you SO much about what living with them is actually like. See one that makes you go oooooh, who is THAT? Ask us about them! We’d be happy to tell you more and arrange a meet & greet. They already got their ticket out of the shelter.
