Fairfax County Animal Services - Lorton Campus

Our Mission

Fairfax County Animal Services delivers exceptional and compassionate care for animals and people in our community. We are dedicated to ending pet homelessness and advancing the health and well-being of every animal that comes through our doors.

Who We Are

As the primary municipal shelter for Fairfax County, we operate state-of-the-art, open-access campuses that provide refuge for approximately 4,000 to 5,000 animals each year. Our work is a united effort, bringing together highly trained staff, passionate volunteers, and devoted foster caregivers who share a core belief: all animals deserve compassion, dignity, and safety.

Our Approach to Care

We provide individualized care for every pet, whether they are a stray, a surrender, or an animal in need of rescue. Beyond daily shelter operations, we actively support the community through pet pantry resources, low-cost vaccine and microchip clinics, and specialized programs like our foster network and spay/neuter vouchers. By offering these services, we work to ensure that pets can remain safely with their families whenever possible.

Find Your New Best Friend

We believe that every pet has a unique personality and a perfect family waiting for them. We invite you to visit our campuses to meet our adoptable dogs, cats, and small animals and discover the joy of giving a shelter pet a second chance. We are proud to offer a transparent and supportive adoption process designed to help you find a companion who will thrive in your home.

Take the Next Step

Ready to meet your new companion? We are open for walk-in, same-day adoptions throughout the week. Browse our adoptable pets online or visit us at our Lorton Campus to begin your journey together.
