Humane Society/SPCA of Nelson County
Saving Lives and Building Bonds
Our mission is to save and improve the lives of homeless dogs and cats in Nelson County through Positive Animal Welfare, placing them into loving forever homes through adoption and rescue partnerships.
Our Journey of Compassion
Founded in 1981 by a group of passionate residents, Nelson SPCA has grown from a small shelter project into a beacon of hope for our community's animals. Over four decades later, we have facilitated over 5,000 adoptions, maintaining a steadfast commitment to ensuring every healthy, treatable animal finds a safe haven.
A Nurturing Environment
We operate the Almost Home Pet Adoption Center, a facility designed specifically to provide a comforting, real-life setting for animals awaiting their new families. Beyond our center, we thrive through a dedicated network of volunteers and foster homes that provide the essential care and love our pets need while they wait for their perfect match.
Your Partner in Adoption
Adopting is a joyful journey, and we believe in thoughtful, supportive matching to ensure your new best friend settles in beautifully. Whether you are adding a dog or cat to your household, our team is here to guide you through the process, answer your questions, and provide resources to make your transition a success.
