The Louisa County Animal Shelter is dedicated to providing humane sheltering, care, adoption, and redemption for stray and surrendered animals. We believe in strengthening our community through responsible pet ownership, education, and a firm commitment to animal welfare.
Operating under the guidelines of the Commonwealth of Virginia, we strive to be a supportive resource for our local citizens and their pets. We are committed to preventing animal cruelty and actively work to reduce pet overpopulation by encouraging spay and neuter practices.
We believe every animal deserves a safe and loving environment while they wait for their forever homes. Our shelter operates with a focus on both direct care and the support of foster families, helping to reduce the number of animals housed on-site through adoptions and temporary placements.
We embrace an inclusive, barrier-free adoption process designed to help you find the perfect match for your family. We offer same-day adoptions and are proud to partner with organizations like Pets for Patriots and Maddie's Fund to help connect veterans and community members with their new companions.
Our doors are open Tuesday through Saturday, from noon to 5:00 pm, and we welcome you to stop by without an appointment to meet our wonderful residents. Whether you are looking to adopt or simply want to learn more, we invite you to visit us at 18 Sacred Heart Avenue in Mineral or browse our current animals online to begin your journey together.
