Our Mission

Our mission is to save the most vulnerable animals and enrich the lives of pets and people. We are dedicated to finding loving homes for every animal in our care while advocating for the humane treatment of all animals in our community.

Our History

The Peninsula SPCA has been a pillar of support for over 85 years, tracing our roots back to 1938 when a group of compassionate volunteers first organized to protect animals on the Peninsula. Today, we continue that legacy with passion, transitioning to an adoption-guarantee model in 2015 to ensure that every healthy and treatable pet receives the second chance they deserve.

Our Care Model

Operating as an adoption-guarantee shelter, we pledge to find a home for every adoptable animal we take in. We never use euthanasia as a tool for population management, meaning our pets stay with us as long as it takes to find their perfect forever families. Our facility, located in Newport News, serves as a safe haven where we prioritize the physical and mental well-being of every animal through quality care and enrichment.

The Adopter Connection

We believe that every pet deserves a perfect match, which is why our adoption process is built on building relationships. We take the time to learn about your lifestyle, your home, and your expectations to ensure a joyful, lifelong partnership between you and your new companion. By meeting you where you are and understanding our animals' unique personalities, we help create connections that last a lifetime.

Join Our Community

Whether you are ready to welcome a new furry friend into your home or want to support our mission through volunteering or donations, we invite you to be part of our story. Visit our website to view our current adoptable pets or stop by our shelter on J. Clyde Morris Boulevard to meet the animals waiting for their next adventure with you.
