Appalachian Great Pyrenees Rescue is a dedicated volunteer-run organization committed to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming Great Pyrenees dogs across Virginia, Maryland, D.C., and parts of West Virginia. We believe that every dog deserves a safe place to land and a future filled with love and stability.
For over two decades, our community has worked to change the world for Pyrs and the people who welcome them home. We operate out of the Richmond, Virginia area, serving as a vital resource for dogs in need, including those from shelters, owner surrenders, and other challenging situations. Our work is focused on doing right by these gentle giants, giving them the individual care and transformation they need to thrive.
Our organization is led by a passionate team of volunteers alongside a dedicated care team that ensures the daily health and well-being of every dog in our facility. Before finding their forever families, each Pyr receives comprehensive medical care, behavioral evaluation, and supportive training. Because we are committed to these dogs for life, we remain a resource for our adopters long after the adoption is finalized.
At AGPR, we believe that adoption should be about finding the right fit rather than the fastest match. Because the Great Pyrenees is an intelligent, independent breed, we take the time to get to know each dog’s personality and ensure our adopters feel prepared for their unique traits. We are here to guide you through a thoughtful, transparent process designed to create lasting, joyful, and successful relationships.
If you are ready to welcome a loyal, devoted companion into your life, we would love to help you find your match. Please visit our website to browse our available dogs or submit an adoption application to begin the conversation. Your support makes our work possible, and we invite you to join us in helping these remarkable dogs find their way home.
