Augusta Dog Adoptions is a dedicated, all-volunteer rescue group committed to saving lives by transferring dogs from high-kill shelters and pounds across Virginia. We believe that every dog deserves a loving home and a bright future, and we work tirelessly to make those connections possible.
Formed in 2006 as Chains Hurt, our organization began with a passion for advocating against tethering and improving the lives of chained dogs in our community. Over the years, our mission has evolved to address the urgent need for rescue, and today we focus our efforts on partnering with shelters that have the highest euthanasia rates in the state to ensure treatable dogs get the care they need.
We do not operate a physical shelter, which allows our dogs to thrive in a more personal environment. Every dog in our program lives in a volunteer’s home, where they receive essential rehabilitation, veterinary care, and socialization until they are ready to meet their forever family. This home-based model ensures that our rescues are comfortable and well-prepared for the transition to their new lives.
Adopters are the heartbeat of our organization, and you are the key to ending the cycle of euthanasia. We take pride in our thoughtful matching process, ensuring that each dog finds a home where they will be successful and loved. Whether you are looking for a playful puppy or a wise senior, we are here to help you find your perfect companion.
Are you ready to change a life? We invite you to view our available dogs and submit an online application to begin the journey toward adoption. We conduct the majority of our adoptions in Waynesboro, VA, and we look forward to introducing you to your new best friend.
