Welcome to the Humane Society of Mason County (HSMC), a dedicated non-profit organization committed to the welfare and care of displaced and abused animals in the Mason County area of Washington State. Our mission is rooted in the philosophy of a no-kill shelter, providing second chances for companion animals, ensuring that every cat, dog, and critter has the opportunity to live, thrive, and find love in their forever homes.
At HSMC, we understand that each animal deserves a fighting chance. That's why we focus on key services including low-cost veterinary care, a comprehensive pet care resource library, and vital support programs such as our Last Litter & Surrender Support, and Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) initiatives. Our goal is not only to rescue but also to educate our community on responsible pet ownership and animal welfare.
Our history traces back to 1986 when a group of passionate volunteers banded together to foster homeless pets and find them loving homes. Since then, we have grown to operate a small facility in Belfair, where we perform over 140 spay and neuter surgeries weekly and maintain a robust foster program that cares for over 100 animals at a time. Our collaboration with local organizations, such as the North Mason Food Bank, allows us to support pet owners in need, ensuring that pets are not neglected due to financial constraints.
As we build for the future, we are progressing toward our dream of a large, well-equipped animal shelter. We have already completed the initial stages of construction, including the installation of a well and the clearing of property. This shelter will not only be a safe haven for needy animals but also serve as a community resource for adoptions and low-cost veterinary services.
Our passionate team of volunteers, board members, and community advocates, led by Executive Director Katherine Johnson, works tirelessly to foster animal welfare and support initiatives in Mason County. Each member brings a wealth of experience and a personal commitment to the cause, whether it's through direct care, fostering, or community outreach.
Join us in making a difference! Whether you are interested in adopting a new furry friend, volunteering your time, or supporting our campaign through donations, there is a place for you here. Together, we can provide love, care, and second chances for the animals that need it most.
