The Whatcom Humane Society advocates for animals, educates our community to promote humane treatment, and provides a safe haven for abandoned, injured, abused, or neglected animals. We believe that all animals have value beyond economic measurement and deserve our kindness, respect, and compassion.
As the oldest nonprofit animal welfare organization in Whatcom County, we have been committed to caring for domestic, farm, and wild animals since 1902. Today, we operate three distinct care facilities—a domestic animal shelter, a farm facility, and a wildlife rehabilitation center—to provide a lifeline for over 5,000 animals annually.
We are proud to be an open-admission shelter, meaning we turn no animal away regardless of age, breed, temperament, or physical condition. Our team provides dedicated care, medical support, and advocacy for every creature that comes through our doors, ensuring each one receives the consideration they deserve while they await their next chapter.
Adopting a pet is a life-changing journey, and our goal is to create the perfect, joyful partnership between you and your new companion. Our staff works closely with you to understand exactly what you are looking for, helping to ensure that the match is a wonderful fit for both your lifestyle and the animal’s unique needs.
We invite you to visit our Division Street shelter to meet the many animals currently dreaming of their forever homes. Please explore our list of adoptable companions or visit us in person to begin the rewarding journey of adoption. Your new best friend is waiting to meet you!
