The Whatcom Humane Society advocates for animals, promotes humane treatment and respect through community education, and provides compassionate care for abandoned, injured, abused, and neglected animals. We envision a community where every animal is treated with the kindness and respect they deserve.
Our History and Commitment
As the oldest nonprofit animal welfare organization in Whatcom County, we have been committed to serving our community since 1902. Our enduring goal is to ensure that all animals—domestic, farm, and wild—receive the legal, moral, and ethical consideration they need to thrive.
How We Care for Animals
We operate three distinct care facilities, including a domestic animal shelter, a farm facility, and a wildlife rehabilitation center, to collectively serve over 5,000 animals each year. As an open-admission shelter, we turn no animal away, regardless of age, breed, or physical condition. Our team is dedicated to providing high-quality care, veterinary support, and a safe, welcoming environment while animals await their forever families.
