Welcome to the Whidbey Animals' Improvement Foundation (WAIF)! Founded in 1990, we are a dedicated non-profit organization located on scenic Whidbey Island, Washington. Our mission is to protect companion animals, provide compassionate care, advocate for their welfare, and enhance the bond between animals and humans. At WAIF, we believe that every companion animal deserves a safe and loving home. We are committed to treating all our animals with kindness and respect, acknowledging their dignity and innocence. We recognize the shared responsibility we have in ensuring their welfare and believe that our greatest strength lies within our community's passion, commitment, and generosity. We operate animal adoption facilities in Coupeville, Oak Harbor, and Freeland, diligently caring for healthy, adoptable pets until they are placed in permanent homes. Our life-saving philosophy ensures that no animal is overlooked, regardless of time or space constraints. WAIF also features two retail thrift stores, providing essential funding to support our vital programs for homeless cats and dogs as well as aiding low-income pet owners. With a variety of ways to contribute—from donating, sponsoring an animal, to volunteering—your support is invaluable in helping us maintain the current level of care for the animals we serve. We also honor the original stewards of this land, acknowledging that WAIF operates on the traditional lands of the Salish-speaking Lower Skagit people.
