Our History and Our Community
Founded in 1908, we have served as a vital safety net for Kitsap County for over a century. Beyond our role as a shelter, we are a community-focused resource dedicated to keeping pets and people together through services like our Pet Food Pantry, veterinary clinics, and behavior support.

We believe in a compassionate approach to animal welfare that goes beyond basic shelter needs. By integrating a dedicated staff, a broad volunteer and foster base, and the resources of our veterinary centers, we ensure every animal in our care receives the medical, physical, and emotional support they deserve while awaiting their forever home.

5/29 - KHS pet food pantry critical during tough economic times - Kitsap Daily News
During the current challenging economic times, an increasing number of pet owners - unable to afford food for their furry pals - are coming to the Kitsap Humane Society’s pet food pantry for assistance. The outlet provides free animal food to pet parents to ensure they can keep their dogs and cats fed.
10/13 - Thanks to @poulsbocoffeeco , our adoptable dude Dewberry had a pup cup, and he was so polite about it.🥹 His neighbor didn’t approve though. 😔 (Don’t worry, we gave the neighbor pup love too.) Poulsbo Coffee Company is our Puppuccino Pal of the month. They are a local, family-owned shop who love connecting with the community, and getting visits from all the pups too. If you are craving a cup, grab your pup and go get some of their delicious coffee! ☕️

10/13 - This year, we’ve awarded Molly “I love dogs” Clark, a beloved, long-term volunteer at KHS, the Apple of Our Eye Award! KHS’ Apple of Our Eye Award - named in honor of former Washington State Representative and KHS Board Member Sherry Appleton - honors volunteers or organizations who have made significant contributions to the success or development of Kitsap Humane Society or have made extraordinary contributions to animal welfare in the Pacific Northwest. Molly’s contributions to KHS are endless, and we are so happy to have her as a volunteer, supporter, and friend of KHS! 10/9 - We are having double shots today! Our adoptable, bonded pair Thor and Luther had the tastiest treat thanks to our Puppuccino Pal of the month, @poulsbocoffeeco ! Poulsbo Coffee Company is a local, family-owned shop, and they truly rock. They love connecting with the community, and getting visits from all the pups too, so grab your pup and go get a cup of their delicious coffee! ☕️

10/7 - Ok friends. The confetti has settled, the lions, tigers, and bears are gone, and Animal Krackers 2026 is in the books. Thanks to YOU, we raised a new record of $571,000! 365 people filled the ballroom, the most since pre-COVID, and the costumes, the energy, the food, the bidding - EVERYTHING was incredible. There were so many highlights. The calendar cover went for $11,600, we received a surprise $25,000 gift from the Jacobi Foundation, and Russ and Svanee Castner of Svanee’s Foundation stepped up to match every $10,000 paddle, which added $90,000 to Fund-a-Need. When we say we had happy and overwhelmed tears at the end of the night, we mean it. Our gratitude for the support is truly immeasurable. Thank you to our Board of Directors for filling tables, finding desserts, bidding against each other, and cheering everyone on. The night wouldn’t have been the same without you. And thank you to everyone who came, gave, and celebrated with us. This means the world to us and to the animals in our care. This gala is going down in KHS history! ❤

9/30 - Our sweet, adoptable girl 🥺Lovy🥺 got a delicious pup cup today thanks to @portorchardcoffeecompany ! Port Orchard Coffee Company is our puppuccino pal for September. Located in Port Orchard off the Tremont exit, Port Orchard Coffee Company is all about spectacular sips, speedy service, and the friendliest staff in all of Kitsap! Also, we’re told they have the very best caramel macchiato in all the land, so check ‘em out if you want to experience the best. ☕️ Thank you Port Orchard Coffee Company for giving this pup and many more a delicious treat!
