Our Mission
Our mission is to rescue, return, restore, rehome, and reconnect one animal at a time. We are dedicated to building a community where everyone loves and cares for animals.
Caring for Pets Since 1897
As the oldest and largest animal welfare organization in Southwest Washington, we have proudly served our region for over a century. Each year, we support more than 16,000 pets through our campuses in Vancouver and Longview, providing refuge, essential medical care, and the hope of a happy home.
How We Help
We operate as a private, independent nonprofit, relying entirely on the generosity of our community. Beyond our shelters, our Community Medicine Program and CHOW pet food pantry provide critical support to help keep pets and families together. We also believe in the power of shared resources, partnering with local networks to make our region one of the safest places for animals in the country.

A Vancouver couple accused of starving two dogs appeared Tuesday in Clark County Superior Court on charges of first- and second-degree animal cruelty.

The Vancouver waterfront went to the dogs in the best way on Saturday. Nearly 1,500 people took part in the Walk/Run for the Animals to benefit the Humane Society for Southwest Washington.
