The Huntington Cabell Wayne Animal Control Shelter is dedicated to providing humane treatment and secure care for animals in our community. We strive every day to find the perfect forever home for every pet that comes through our doors.
Managed by West Virginia Animal Rescue, we serve as the largest and only truly open intake facility in the West Virginia Tri-State area. We are deeply committed to reducing pet overpopulation through spay and neuter initiatives, ongoing community education, and essential support services for our neighbors in Cabell and Wayne Counties.
Our facility provides a safe, temporary haven for strays and owner-surrendered pets while they await their next chapter. We believe that fostering saves lives, allowing animals to receive individualized love and care in a home environment until they are ready for adoption. Our team is constantly working to rehabilitate and match animals with the right families to ensure successful, lifelong bonds.
Adopting a pet is a joyful, life-changing journey, and we are here to support you in finding the right match for your lifestyle. Whether you are looking for a playful puppy or a gentle cat, our staff is dedicated to ensuring you have all the information and resources you need to succeed. We encourage you to learn the habits and personality of your new companion to build a foundation of lasting trust.
Are you ready to welcome a new companion into your home? We invite you to explore our available dogs and cats online or visit our shelter on James River Road to meet our wonderful animals. Your support—whether through adoption, volunteering, or donations—directly improves the lives of the thousands of animals we serve every year.
