Our Mission
The Berkeley County Humane Society is dedicated to providing a safe haven for homeless and unwanted dogs and cats, promoting their humane treatment, and facilitating their placement into loving homes throughout the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.
A Legacy of Care
Since our founding in 1915 and charter in 1943, we have served as a cornerstone of animal welfare in Martinsburg. For over a century, our focus has remained on addressing the needs of stray and owner-relinquished animals with compassion and professional care.
How We Help
Our shelter on Charles Town Road acts as a home for animals awaiting their forever families, where we provide essential support including daily care and medical services. We are proud to feature the Evelyn Kilmer Spay and Neuter Clinic, where our on-site DVM ensures that every pet adopted from our facility receives necessary surgeries. Beyond adoptions, we support the community with low-cost spay and neuter assistance, micro-chipping, and private pet cremation services to help families honor their beloved companions.

By requiring that all pets be spayed or neutered and encouraging responsible veterinary care, we set every adoption up for a healthy and joyful future.
