Our Mission
The Berkeley County Humane Society is dedicated to providing a safe shelter for homeless cats and dogs while striving to find them loving, permanent homes. We are committed to promoting the humane treatment of animals throughout the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.
Our History and Community
Since 1915, and officially chartered in 1943, we have been a cornerstone of animal welfare in Martinsburg and the surrounding regions. Our long-standing presence allows us to serve the community through shelter, education, and collaboration with local and state government partners.
How We Care for Animals
We maintain a dedicated physical facility that serves as a safe haven for stray and owner-relinquished animals. Our commitment to health and wellness is anchored by the on-site Evelyn Kilmer Spay and Neuter Clinic, where we provide essential surgeries and care for our rescues and offer low-cost assistance to the public. Every animal in our care receives professional attention to ensure they are ready for their next chapter.

Our adoption process is designed to ensure the safety and well-being of every animal, as we work together to match companions with caring homes. When you choose to adopt from us, you gain a partner in your new pet's life, as we require all adopted animals to be spayed or neutered to support their long-term health.
