Animal Friends of North Central West Virginia
Our Mission
Animal Friends of North Central West Virginia serves as a dedicated refuge for unwanted, abandoned, and abused animals, ensuring every life is treated with the dignity and care it deserves. We are proud to be the region’s first no-kill animal shelter, offering an endless supply of love and a safe harbor for our furry residents.
How We Began
Our story was born from a desire to do the right thing for animals of misfortune, inspired by a rescued golden retriever/black lab mix named Lucky. After being mistreated, Lucky found a second chance with a group of animal-loving friends who eventually united to create a high-quality, non-profit sanctuary. Since our founding in 1999, we have helped save the lives of thousands of animals by providing them with the medical care and compassion they need to thrive.
Our Care Model
We operate a comprehensive adoption and foster program that provides rescue, placement, and spay/neuter services for our animals. Our shelter at Brewer Road serves as a safe haven, though we also rely on a network of foster parents who provide loving, temporary homes until a permanent family is found. We believe that no pet should be denied a chance at a happy life simply because they lack a home.
Your Role in Their Journey
Adoption is a joyful partnership, and we are committed to helping you find the perfect match for your lifestyle. Whether you are looking for a playful companion or a gentle soul to share your quiet moments, our team is here to support you through the process, from your first visit to bringing your new best friend home.
