The Chequamegon Humane Association is a dedicated animal welfare organization serving Northwestern Wisconsin, committed to providing compassionate care and fostering lifelong bonds for homeless pets. We strive to build a community where every animal is cherished and united with a loving family.
Founded in 1980 by a volunteer-driven mission in Ashland, Wisconsin, our organization has grown from humble beginnings into a professional sanctuary. Today, we operate out of a state-of-the-art facility completed in 2017, which serves as a beacon of hope for nearly 1,000 animals annually.
We are a proud 501(c)(3) nonprofit, fueled by the generosity of our community rather than tax dollars. Our shelter provides a nurturing environment where animals receive high-quality medical care, vaccinations, and spay/neuter services, with no time limits on their stay. Beyond sheltering, we support pet owners through our food pantry and low-cost veterinary assistance, ensuring that families stay together whenever possible.
Adoption is a joyful journey, and we believe in prioritizing the perfect match over a first-come, first-served process. Our dedicated coordinators work closely with you to ensure your new companion aligns with your lifestyle and home environment. By taking the time to understand each animal’s unique personality, we help create lasting, heartwarming success stories for every pet and person.
Whether you are ready to adopt, volunteer, or foster, there are countless ways to make a difference. We invite you to visit our shelter in Ashland, explore our adoptable animals, or reach out to us today to see how you can help turn a shelter pet into a beloved family member.
