Welcome to the Chequamegon Humane Association, Inc. (CHA), where our mission is to promote animal welfare in the Chequamegon Bay area and beyond. Established in 1980 by a passionate group of volunteers, we have grown from our humble beginnings operating out of individual homes to becoming a licensed and inspected facility dedicated to the care of homeless animals.
At CHA, we provide a temporary safe haven for homeless animals from Ashland and Bayfield Counties and surrounding areas, working to ensure that every pet receives the standard of care they deserve. Our facilities allow us to implement programs that benefit both the animals and the community. Notably, these include a low-cost Spay/Neuter Program for low-income pet owners, a Pet Food Pantry, and low-cost adoptions for senior citizens, ensuring pet ownership is accessible to everyone.
Since our move to our new location at 923 Rail Drive in 2017, we have been able to expand our programs significantly. Our commitment to animal care includes providing vaccines, spaying/neutering, microchipping, and necessary medical treatments, ensuring that all pets are healthy and ready for loving homes. We were able to achieve this level of care thanks to the community's generous support and our dedicated staff and board members.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we invite you to join us in making a difference in the lives of homeless pets. Your support through donations, adoptions, or volunteering can help us continue our vital work. We are open to the public Wednesday through Sunday from 12 PM to 4 PM, and we welcome you to visit us at our shelter. Together, we can keep animals off the streets and find them the loving homes they deserve!
