The Humane Society of Barron County (HSBC) is a dedicated non-profit animal shelter, proudly serving Barron County and its surrounding areas since its establishment in 1978. Founded by a committed group of volunteers, the organization began its journey with a mission to provide refuge for animals in need, taking them into their own homes while advocating for their adoption into forever homes.
Over the decades, HSBC has transformed from a humble volunteer-led initiative into a robust organization that operates out of a cozy location on Guy Avenue in Barron. Our shelter is managed by a small staff, bolstered by the unwavering support of our volunteers. We rely entirely on the kindness of our community, funded through donations, membership support, adoptions, and various fundraising events. As a private 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, we do not receive any public funding or county assistance, allowing us to maintain our commitment to animal welfare independently.
At HSBC, our mission is clear: to assist in reducing pet overpopulation while enhancing the lives of homeless animals through quality care, adoption services, education, and advocacy. We strive to find the perfect matches between our adoptable pets and loving forever homes, and to ensure a seamless adoption experience, potential adopters are required to submit an application before scheduling a visit.
Understanding that animal care is of utmost importance, we prioritize minimizing stress on our animals. Therefore, we operate by appointment only for meet & greets and adoptions on select days of the week. Our shelter doors are open for donations and access to our Pet Pantry, demonstrating our commitment to the well-being of all animals under our care and those in the community.
We invite you to join us in making a difference in the lives of animals in need. Whether you're looking to adopt, volunteer, or contribute as a donor, your support is crucial in helping us continue our mission. Together, we can improve the lives of countless furry companions and ensure they find the loving homes they deserve.
