The Humane Society of Jefferson County is dedicated to improving the lives of animals in need through compassionate care, adoption, advocacy, and education. We strive to inspire humane communities that foster kindness and respect for all creatures.
Our History
Since our founding in 1922, we have been a pillar of support for local animals. Over the decades, we have evolved from our humble beginnings in a Quonset hut to our modern, spacious facility on Kiesling Road, which has served our community since 2015.
How We Operate
We are a private, non-profit organization serving as an open admission shelter, ensuring that stray animals from our contracted municipalities always have a safe place to go. We are committed to high standards of care, including the spaying or neutering of all dogs, cats, and rabbits prior to adoption. Our shelter provides a comfortable, enrichment-filled environment where animals receive dedicated attention from our staff and volunteers until they find their permanent homes.
