A History of Compassion
Since our founding in 1922, we have been a pillar of support for animals in Jefferson County. Over the decades, our organization has evolved from a small operation into a modern, spacious facility, all while maintaining our core commitment to providing a sanctuary for animals waiting for their forever homes.
How We Care
We are an open-admission shelter, meaning we accept all stray animals from our contracted municipalities regardless of age, health, or temperament. We are a private, non-profit organization that relies entirely on donations, fundraising, and municipal contracts rather than government funding to keep our doors open. There is no time limit for our animals, and they stay with us as long as needed until they find a loving family.

9/26 - Happy International Rabbit Day from Hoppi! Hoppi isn’t your typical shy bunny,he’s outgoing, curious, and loves following his people around, especially if there might be some salad or veggies involved! He happily accepts pets and attention and loves getting the chance to explore. To celebrate International Rabbit Day, Hoppi got free roam of our community room, where he enjoyed some snacks and had a blast zooming around! After being transferred to us from MADACC, Hoppi has now been waiting a month for a family to call his own. He’s still young with plenty of life ahead of him, and he’d much rather spend it in a home than at the shelter. Could Hoppi be the bunny for you?
