Our Mission
At Lakeshore Humane Society, we are dedicated to our mission to aid, advocate, and adopt to enrich the lives of companion animals. We believe that every animal deserves a chance to find a loving, permanent home.
Our History
Founded in 1970 by a passionate group of animal lovers, our organization has spent over 45 years serving the Manitowoc County area. From our humble beginnings to the expansion of our 5,000-square-foot facility, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to providing humane and compassionate care for those in need.
How We Operate
As an open admission shelter, we provide loving care 365 days a year for over 1,500 companion animals annually. While we receive a small amount of support from municipal contracts, our vital work is primarily fueled by the generosity of private donors and grants. Our facility in Manitowoc serves as a safe haven where animals receive the medical attention and support they need before moving to their next chapter.

We believe that adoption is a joyful partnership, and our team works hard to ensure that every placement is a perfect match for both the pet and the family. Every day, three new homes open their hearts and doors to a pet from our shelter, transforming lives through the power of adoption. We take pride in our thoughtful matching process, ensuring that every animal finds a responsible, permanent place to call home.
