Welcome to the Dunn County Humane Society (DCHS), where compassion meets action in our mission to enhance the well-being of companion animals. Established in 1993, we have been dedicated to securing permanent, loving homes for the pets in our care. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, our vital work relies on the generous support from our community, both individuals and corporations. Our story began with Flash, a beloved Basset Hound, whose tragic fate in 1992 inspired the founding of DCHS. His memory fuels our commitment to ensuring that every animal receives the care and love they deserve. Living by our no-kill philosophy, we believe that every life is valuable, and we strive to provide a safe and loving environment for all animals, free from unnecessary sacrifice. At DCHS, we believe in treating all our residents with positive and “fear-free” handling. Every animal in our care is entitled to the five basic freedoms: freedom from hunger and thirst; freedom from discomfort; freedom from pain, injury, or disease; freedom to express normal behavior; and freedom from fear and distress. These principles guide every decision we make as an organization, emphasizing our values of compassion and respect for all living beings. We're not just a shelter; we are a community resource. Our services include impound options for lost and stray pets, adoption services, low-cost microchipping clinics, and a Community Pet Pantry that supports local pet owners in need. We understand that circumstances can change, which is why we also offer rehoming support to help families keep their pets during tough times. Additionally, our collaboration with Bridge to Hope's Safe Harbor Fund provides critical support for animals belonging to individuals impacted by domestic violence. In line with our commitment to community welfare, we utilize Trap/Neuter/Return (TNR) methods for managing community cat populations, which has led to healthier and more vibrant cat communities. In the past year alone, DCHS has cared for over 1,030 pets and found homes for more than 570 animals. Yet, we acknowledge the ongoing need in Dunn County, as too many animals are still abandoned, neglected, and in need of help.
