At the Oshkosh Area Humane Society, we provide life-saving, compassionate care and comfort to animals in need while building a community that promotes the humane treatment of all animals.
Our History and Purpose
Our story began in 1991 when a small group of concerned citizens formed Friends of the Shelter to improve animal welfare. Since opening our facility at 1925 Shelter Court in 2005, we have remained a private, independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, fully sustained by the generosity of our donors and supporters rather than government operational funding.

Our dedicated team provides high-quality nutrition, medical attention, and socialization in a safe, clean shelter environment to prepare our residents for their future families. By balancing shelter operations with active foster programs for those who need a home setting, we ensure each pet receives the specific support they need to thrive.

10/12 - Madilyn and Fleetwood Mac are a purrecious pair who just want to love you and be loved! These little sweethearts adore attention and being gently petted, and will purr purr purr. Both of them are a little shy when meeting you for the first time, but they quickly melt and just want to be petted and will head butt you for more love. They are BFFs and would love to be adopted together; kittens are better in pairs as they have a friend to snuggle and play with, and live happier, healthier lives together. 10/9 - 🥪 Hoagie is doing fantastic in foster care and would really love to be your next adventure buddy!! 🐾 At around 7 months old and 50 pounds, Hoagie is a smart, energetic pup who is learning all about the world! ❤️ Hoagie is working hard on his training and knows some great skills, including sit, down, wait, and touch! He’s a bright guy who benefits from positive reinforcement, mental enrichment, and a patient owner. You can learn so much from dogs, sometimes even more than you can teach them! Hoagie is a great walking buddy, loves his toys, and is both crate trained and house trained! He’s also been social with the dogs he’s met here at OAHS. Hoagie would do best in a home with kids 10 and older. Because we want Hoagie and his future family to start off on the right paw, his adoption includes two private training sessions! 🎓 Hoagie isn’t looking for a perfect family. 10/7 - Meet Tiny & Diesel — the cutest odd couple you’ll ever meet! 💕🐾 Tiny is an adorable 8-pound sweetheart, while Diesel is a lovable 89-pound hunk. Together, they are one seriously cute pair! Tiny and Diesel came to us together, and they absolutely adore each other. They’d love nothing more than to find a forever home where they can continue their life as a dynamic duo. 10/3 - McCloud and Cinderella are looking for an adopter with a big heart ❤️ Some friendships are just too special to separate—and that’s exactly the case with McCloud and Cinderella! These two adorable kittens are bonded best friends who play together, snuggle together, and truly need to find their forever home together. ☁️ McCloud is a happy little lovebug! He is crazy affectionate, cuddly, and absolutely loves being a lap kitten. 👑 Cinderella is playful, silly, and always ready for some fun! She and McCloud make the sweetest pair and love spending their days playing and then curling up together for some serious kitten snuggles. A special note about McCloud: this little guy tested positive for heartworm disease. Because that is unusual for a kitten this young, we ran additional diagnostics. At this point, possibilities include a true infection or antigen detection related to transmission from his mother during pregnancy. A heartworm-positive cat is not necessarily destined to become seriously ill or have a shortened life. Some cats remain stable, while others can develop respiratory complications. There is currently no approved medication to treat heartworm in cats. Management generally focuses on monitoring, supportive care, and treating inflammation or respiratory disease if needed. We know adopting these two comes with an extra consideration, and that's why we're looking for someone special, who will love both of these sweet babies and work with their veterinarian to give McCloud the care and monitoring he needs. 10/1 - 🐾 A Special Plea for Stormie Mae & Gerald 🐾 If you've ever looked at a kitten and wished you could help, this is your chance to make a life-changing difference. Right now, we have kittens with Dermatophytosis, more commonly known as ringworm. Despite the name, it is not a worm. It's a fungal infection, similar to athlete's foot, that affects the skin and fur. While it is contagious and requires commitment, it is very treatable. These two little ones have been growing up in our extended care unit for nearly 3 months now 💔 They need, and deserve, to be in a loving foster home, where they can heal and get love, comfort, playtime and human connection. All you need to foster this precious pair is: • A separate room to house them in (ideally a bathroom or room with easy-to-disinfect surfaces) • AM drop-off and PM pick-up at the shelter on Mondays and Fridays (for their treatment dips) • A 2- to 4-week commitment (they’ve been in treatment a long time and will likely clear quickly) We provide all the supplies! You can even foster-to-adopt them – because they are SUPER LOVING little ones and we promise they will steal your heart! Facts about ringworm: • It cannot infect healthy, intact skin • Healthy adults are the least likely to get it • If you get it, it appears as a small pink patch and is itchy; it is treated with lotrimin cream • There are 3+ million cases of ringworm in people every year • Bleach diluted with 10 parts water kills it (on surfaces) • It’s really not a big deal! Please consider bringing Stormie Mae and Gerald into your heart and your home for the final couple weeks of their treatment. 9/30 - Link and Gannon are super friendly, silly, playful, adorable babies who will absolutely steal your heart! They are wittle ones at only 3.5 months old, and spend their days either entertaining us with their silly antics or snuggling up together and being cute and wanting to be petted and purr purr purr. These adorable little boys have feline leukemia (Feluk) – but please don’t let that scare you! This means they have a weaker immune system. However, with proper care, Feluk kitties can live happy, fulfilling lives for many years. Feluk is contagious to other cats, so these babies would need to be your only kitties, or live with other Feluk+ kitties. It is not contagious to dogs, other animals or people. We have staff who have feluk+ kitties who would be happy to talk to you about it!
