Welcome to the Columbia County Humane Society (CCHS), where our commitment to animal welfare dates back to our incorporation in 1925. Established to address the urgent need for the care of unwanted and abandoned animals in Columbia County, we have evolved tremendously while remaining steadfast in our mission. In 1975, we became recognized as a charitable and tax-exempt organization, allowing us to broaden our impact within the community. Our mission is clear: CCHS is dedicated to protecting, sheltering, and ensuring the welfare of all animals in and around Columbia County. We rely on the cooperative effort of our citizens and extend our grateful acknowledgment to our community for their ongoing support. Each year, we provide care and shelter to approximately 1300 animals, ranging from strays brought in by local officials, to transfers from other shelters and rescues, as well as animals surrendered by their owners. Through our dedicated efforts, countless animals have found loving homes and a second chance at life. In 1998, our new shelter opened its doors to accommodate the ever-increasing number of animals needing our services and to enhance the support we provide to our community. We take pride in our humane work and aim to continue serving Columbia County well into the 21st century and beyond. At CCHS, we provide a variety of services, including adoption opportunities for dogs, cats, and other animals looking for forever homes. Our adoption process is designed to ensure that each animal is placed in a suitable environment where they can thrive.
