The Humane Society of Douglas County is dedicated to the prevention of cruelty, the relief of suffering, and the promotion of humane education. We believe every animal deserves a second chance and we work tirelessly to ensure that our community’s animals receive the care and respect they need.
Since our founding in July 1975, we have been a cornerstone of animal welfare in Superior, Wisconsin, and the surrounding Douglas County area. Our modern shelter facility, which opened in 2015, serves as a safe haven for approximately 1,000 animals each year as they wait for their forever homes.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we provide comprehensive medical attention to every animal in our care, including vaccinations, spay/neuter surgeries, microchipping, and behavioral assessments. We are deeply proud to be a no-kill organization for adoptable pets, ensuring that euthanasia is only considered in cases of severe medical or behavioral issues where no other options exist.
Adoption is a joyful partnership, and our team is here to help you find the perfect match for your family and lifestyle. We encourage you to start the process by calling our shelter for pre-approval, which helps us ensure every pet finds a living arrangement where they will be welcomed and loved. Whether you are ready to adopt or just want to learn more, we are here to guide you through every step of the journey.
We invite you to experience the impact of your support by visiting us at our facility on Moccasin Mike Road or checking our website for the latest list of available animals. You can also make a difference by volunteering, fostering, or contributing to our life-saving work. Reach out today at (715) 398-6784—we cannot wait to help you meet your new best friend.
