The Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County leads the community in animal welfare and assures sanctuary for animals in need. We are dedicated to strengthening the relationship between animals and humans, making a more compassionate community possible for all.
Our History
Since our founding in 1965, HAWS has been a trusted, community-based organization born from the desire to provide a centralized, humane shelter for stray and homeless animals. For over 60 years, we have grown alongside Waukesha County, evolving from humble beginnings into a vital resource that assists more than 10,000 animals each year.
Our Commitment to Care
At HAWS, we believe in providing the best possible care through our open-admission, no-kill shelter model. We combine professional sheltering with innovative programs, including behavior and training support, to ensure that every animal has a second chance at a happy life. Our dedicated team and facility at 701 Northview Road serve as a sanctuary where pets are treated with the respect and kindness they deserve.

9/25 - #ad When we walked into a shelter 9 years ago and left with Casper, we never forgot about the cats still there. We partnered with @friskies and donated 1000lbs of wet food to three of our local Wisconsin Shelters @kindredkitties @secondhandpurrs @haws_waukesha.
