Our Mission

The Humane Society of Burnett County (HSBC) is dedicated to providing a safe haven for stray or unwanted animals, fostering the human-animal bond, promoting responsible pet ownership, and ending pet overpopulation through spay/neuter initiatives. We believe in our core values of rescue, reunite, rehome, and rethink to ensure every animal gets the best care possible.

Our Journey

Founded in November 2000, our organization initially focused on sheltering stray dogs within a network of foster homes. Thanks to the generosity of our community and the late Hugh Schilling, Jr., we opened our current facility, the Peggy Schilling Animal Adoption & Education Center, in 2019 to better serve animals in need.

How We Care

We operate a professional shelter environment where our team—ranging from kennel technicians to administrative staff—provides daily care and enrichment for our residents. Beyond our physical center, we rely on the selflessness of foster families to offer temporary homes, which can make all the difference while an animal waits to find their forever family.
